My First Stitch Fix Review

Here are the 5 items I received in my first Stitch Fix box. For more information on what it’s all about, check out my previous post here. A cool little idea included with each article of clothing is an attached card with styling options. I like that. Click on pics to enlarge.

Ballario Ruched Side Long-sleeve Top by “Sweet Pea”

1st fix return sweet pea top

Positives: color, ruching defines waist

Negatives: priced too high; I had a similar “Sweet Pea” top that I put in a yard sale because I didn’t really like the fabric – too “huggy” in other places I don’t need it to be. I let them know not to send me anything else in that fabric.

Verdict: returned

Tab sleeve shirt-dress by “Collective Concepts”1st fix return

Positives: made in the U.S.A., flattering, cute print, cute tab sleeves, looked good over a pair of skinny pants I already own

Negatives: too short to wear as a dress, pocket hung weirdly

Verdict: returned

Ivy Drop Print Tab Sleeve Blouse by “41Hawthorn”

1st fix return - ivy top

Positives: made in the U.S.A., cute tab sleeves, CUTE print, good color combo, great fit, love the style, great length without looking boxy; I REALLY LIKED THIS ONE A LOT!

Negatives: price point a bit high for a top and if it had been less expensive I would have kept it

Verdict: returned but just barely

Rocco Faux Wrap Tank Dress by “Last Tango”

1st fix return blue dressPositives: made in the U.S.A., color, fabric, style, very flattering, could be dressed up or down, husband liked it a lot, price was okay for the versatility

Negatives: a bit too short, fit more like an XS and so was, again, “huggy” in places I don’t need it to be…

Verdict: returned but I would have kept this one had it been a bit roomier in the bust area and a tad longer (I may request this one again in the next size up.)

Gold Spear Earrings by “Betty Carre”

gold spear earringsPositives: length, pretty shade of gold, shape, price, nickel free; I rarely wear gold jewelry anymore but I’d like to add a few pieces back in to my jewelery box.

Negatives: none

Verdict: kept these!

After receiving my first “fix” I completed my online form (very easy) to let them know what I was keeping. I just have to put the returns in the postage paid bag and drop it at the post office – you get 3 days to do this. Also, I logged into my Stitch Fix style profile and added more specific information as to what I like. Lastly, I created a “My Style” Pinterest board and linked that to my profile so the stylists have an even better idea of the kind of clothing that looks good on me. Basically I like classic, casual pieces and if there’s a little quirky or unexpected detail – all the better! That being said, I’m open to being a little more adventurous to get out of my style rut.

Will I do it again? I’ve already got my next “fix” scheduled and expect that with the style updates and Pinterest board I made, the next box will have more keepers.

Should you sign up, please consider using my referral link. That gives me a little store credit. Of course, you can do the same when you get your referral link!

So what do you think? Will you give Stitch Fix a try? I tell you it was so much better than shopping at the mall!

Stuck in a Style Rut? There’s an Easy “Fix” for That!

Do you enjoy fashion and looking good but get overwhelmed at the mall?

Or maybe you just need a little help to get out of your fashion box and try a new look.

When I heard about Stitch Fix I was intrigued with the idea of having a personal stylist choose clothes just for me AND have them shipped right to my doorstep! Hello! What’s not to like about that?

I enjoy putting clothes together and looking good with clothes that are flattering on me. But what I don’t enjoy, for the most part, is wading through rack after rack at the retail store trying to choose something to try on. The myriad of choices is overwhelming to me and I tend to go directly to the clearance rack to limit my choices (and my spending).

The other problem that hampers my shopping is I am rarely in the mood to shop for clothing. I’d rather shop for linen kitchen towels, or scour a thrift store for vintage Homer Laughlin dishes or a monogrammed silver serving spoon.

So when I heard that Stitch Fix would do the clothes shopping for me, I signed up (using another blogger’s referral link) to give it a try. I am not receiving anything from Stitch Fix for posting this review. However if you choose to use my referral link to sign up and schedule your first “fix” I do get a $25 credit. Here’s the gist on Stitch Fix.

  • Sign up (Consider using my referral link). There may be a brief waiting period of up to 2 weeks.
  • Complete your Style Profile You check boxes for your clothing size, weight, height, and body type. You are asked questions about varying groups of clothing including bags, shoes and accessories to help the stylist determine your style. You also pick your price range.

You’ll see options like this:

  • Schedule when you’d like your “fix” which includes 5 items of clothing/accessories.
  • Your “fix” arrives. There is no shipping fee and you decide when you want a “fix.” You are not locked into ordering anything. Schedule whenever you need a “fix” and cancel at any time.
  • Try on your handpicked items in the comfort of your own home. See how the pieces work with what you’ve already got.
  • Keep what you like. Return what you don’t within 3 days using the enclosed prepaid mailing envelope.
  • Your only cost is a $20 styling fee per fix. That $20 is applied to the cost of whatever you decide to keep. If you decide to keep all 5 items you get a 25% discount.

I got my first “fix” Saturday. Here’s what I like about the Stitch Fix personal styling plan:

  • It’s fun.
  • It’s convenient.
  • It’s a good way to get out of your fashion box!
  • I can apply the $20 styling fee to a purchase.
  • It’s easy to return.
  • I can try pieces on with other items already in my closet. You can’t take your closet with you when you shop at the mall.
  • Did I mention, it’s fun?

As soon as I can upload the pictures of the items I received, I’ll show you what came in my first “fix” and tell you what I kept, what I returned and why.

So You Wanna Be A Cuter You?

Starting Sunday, May 1, I’ll be bringing you a new blog series called
“31 Days Closer to a Cuter You!”

Topics will include:

  • how not to look old
  • finding your best hem lengths
  • shoes that flatter
  • hair issues
  • how to dress YOUR body
  • kitchen cuisine for beauty treatments
  • my favorite “beauty” products
  • and more!

 But wait! That’s not all.

Sandy, The Amazing Adventures of Friday Fitness Girl, is the brain behind the “31 Days Closer…” child!

Check out her post here to find out more about the “31 Days Closer…” series and the other cool chick bloggers who are participating.

In the meantime, is there a particular issue you deal with along the lines of looking your best?
What is your biggest challenge in looking like the “you” you would like to see reflected in the mirror?

~ And hey, I know this is all superficial stuff, but sometimes it’s fun to have a little girl talk about clothes, shoes, and make-up.

I know I could use a little “superficial fluff & stuff” now and again. What about you?

Uncommon Women

I get to speak to some wonderful women this week. I’ve prepared a new topic entitled “Uncommon Women.”
In “Uncommon Women,” the women I honor are those in UNCOMMON TIMES of UNCOMMON COURAGE with UNCOMMON FAITH.

Not only do we have the Biblical examples of women like Deborah, Esther, Mary (mother of Jesus) and Elizabeth, but if you look around, there are plenty of women that you know who are UNCOMMON.
In fact, it may be YOU!
Uncommon Women are:
~ called upon to live out a season that is UNCOMMON and not of their choosing.
~ digging deep to discover an UNCOMMON COURAGE.
~ developing an UNCOMMON FAITH that endures despite adversity.

How is this possible?

Come back and I’ll share more from “Uncommon Women.”

In the meantime, the weather here on the west, central coast of Florida is getting a bit cooler so I thought I would do a little online dreaming.
These would be fun to wear!
Have you made any new purchases for fall fashion? Trending fashion I actually like: capes and patterned tights.

In reality, I wore yoga pants to run in yesterday and got too hot. I’m about to head out now and will be in running shorts. ‘Got to get my miles in!
Have you been to my running blog ~ http://www.seemymomrun.com/? I asked my sidebar trainer, Meka, a question that ties in with the Essie nail polish. Go see how that relates. And if you are a mom who runs, I sure would like to interview you for See My Mom Run! If you’ve never been to my running blog, be sure to click on the month of June, scroll to the bottom and see why I started running again.

Haircut Day, Shop My Closet, Platforms, Doggie Adoration

Sometimes a girl’s just gotta do it! So I did. See the hairstyle in my sidebar? I’ve had a variation of that for 2 years now. I loved it but I was tired of it. So 30 seconds before I sat in the chair Friday I picked up a short hair magazine and chose the first style I saw! Seriously.

Last week I made a “closet confesison.” This is my “new” outfit I wore to church yesterday. All of it came from my closet and none of it was new but I had never worn these pieces together. And that’s what made it “new.” The cami is really old…maybe 6 years old. The skirt is one I bought on clearance last fall (under $12), the tied top is the newest piece that I bought in the spring ~ so technically maybe that is “new.” The necklace is a mother’s day gift from ’08 or was it a bday gift? I have earrings to match but you can’t see them since I cropped my head out. I had a weird expression on my face, no doubt due to the Florida humidity!

Close-up of the platform slingbacks…some of my favorite shoes (at least 5 years old) because the platform makes the high heel comfortable and again…slingbacks visually elongate the leg.

Another style tip to “elongate” the leg: Wear a neutral flesh toned shoe.

Last week was One Fine Man’s and my anniversary. We went out for seafood and then came home and walked our dog and our neighbor’s. Romantic, I know. But it really was because we were together with another couple in love.
These two doggies adore one another. Ours is the pekingese, Ted. Reese is his girlfriend. See how our little dog gazes so adoringly at his big boned girlfriend? And notice how Reese is blinded from basking in Ted’s love?
